What should I start with?

Most side-income advice hands you a list of ideas and leaves you to work out whether any of them fit. Income Toolkit goes the other way round: the tools come before the articles.

The Idea Finder takes your budget, your skills, the hours you have free and the type of work you prefer. It returns a short list of fitting opportunities with the tools each one needs. The calculators then show their working: every assumption is on screen, and every figure is labelled as an estimate, not earnings.

How it works

Three steps, in this order:

  1. Tell it four things. Your budget, your skills, the hours you have free and the type of work you prefer.

  2. Read the short list. Each fitting opportunity comes with the tools it needs.

  3. Check the working. The calculators show their assumptions, so you can see what every estimate rests on.

Six tools, each one showing its working

One Idea Finder and five calculators. All of them label every figure as an estimate, not earnings.

  • Idea Finder

Budget, skills, hours and preferred work go in. A short list of fitting opportunities, with the tools each needs, comes out.

  • Side hustle profit

Shows what is left after costs, with the assumptions listed beside the figure.

  • Startup cost

Adds up what it takes to begin, line by line, and labels the total as an estimate.

  • Digital product profit

Estimates profit from a digital product and shows the assumptions behind it.

  • Freelance hourly rate

Works towards an hourly rate for freelance work, with every assumption in view.

  • Monthly income target

Starts from the extra you want each month and shows what that target rests on.

What you get

  • A navy toolbox holding a calculator, a ruler and a pencil

    Free for visitors

Nothing to pay to use the Idea Finder or any of the calculators.

  • A clipboard with three ticked lines under a magnifying glass

    Assumptions on show

Each tool lists what its figure rests on, so you can judge it for yourself.

  • A calculator under a dashed arc with a small green sprout beside it

    Estimates, not earnings

Every figure is labelled as an estimate, so none can be read as money you will make.
